RECOVERED AGRICULTURAL PLASTICS SCHEME (RAPS)
The Recovered Agricultural Plastics Scheme (RAPS), is run jointly by Agrovista UK Limited and The JSR Farming Group, along with Recovered Plastics.com, enabling Agrovista customers access to a cost-effective and reputable way of disposing of various types of waste plastic in response to recently-announced legislation affecting the farming industry.
Following a successful pilot run during the 2004-05 growing season, the three companies decided to expand the scheme further to encompass the Yorkshire region to begin with, with the likelihood of other parts of the country to follow.
Scheme features
- Environmentally sound disposal – collected waste is recycled into new products, not disposed of via landfill or burning.
- Independent inspection of cleaned pesticide containers prior to transportation – minimises risk of loads being rejected.
- Transfer conducted by licensed waste carrier
- Waste plastics (as specified) are collected from farm and delivered to a central hub for storage before onward distribution to recycling company.
- Fully auditable process – ensures compliance with regulations
- Cleaned pesticide containers, seed and fertiliser bags accepted
- Participating farm staff undergo RAPS training
- Cost-effective disposal service
