Trials and technical developments

The unique Agrovista trials series is designed to take the guesswork out of those choices, by utilising the information from the independent and widely based series of plot trials conducted on a yearly basis. More than 400 high quality replicated trials - comprising thousands of individual plots - are conducted each year, and monitored through to harvest.

This wealth of impartial information is relayed to you through in-field agronomy advisors. The ultimate aim of the Agrovista trials series is to give you the unbiased answers you need to optimise returns.

Rotational crop trials

Oilseed rape is an important crop in arable rotations, with the potential to produce the best gross margin of any break crop.

Our trials are held at sites around the country to develop aspects of oilseed rape establishment and agronomy which will help you to improve the consistency of yields and margins, as well as identifying ways to cope with any new restrictions you may have to contend with.

So far we have investigated:

  • Precision sowing of oilseed rape
  • Row width and plant population
  • Seed rate in conjunction with band establishment
  • Band application of nutrients and herbicides
  • Inter-row application of non-selective herbicides
  • Zero-till establishment
  • Nutrient seed treatments and primed seed
  • Grassweed control strategies

    Trials meetings across the UK

  • Meetings are held at the various sites during the course of the year. As well as our technical team, other industry experts will be on hand to discuss different aspects of growing oilseed rape. There will also be the opportunity to visit during the year and regular updates will be available to all growers who register.

If you would like to be involved in your local group please contact Agrovista via email or register your interest through the Events page.
