Chris Clayton is the new managing director of Agrovista UK, the national agronomy services and crop protection product distributor with some 20% of the UK market.  He takes up the post – vacant for the last 18 months – on March 1st.

Mr Clayton was formerly head of central Europe for Syngenta’s integrated crop protection and seeds business.  His previous roles at Syngenta were in marketing and operations, including country head for Hungary and the head of sales and marketing in the UK.  He began his careers as central southern England salesman for ICI Agrochemical;s, one of the companies that merged to form Syngenta in 2000.

“Chris’s experience and knowledge of agrochemicals, seed and European markets matches Agrovista’s development plans perfectly,” says Agrovista group chairman James Robertson.  “As a division of the Marubeni Corporation, our aim in to capitalise on the wider business’s other activities.  For example, Marubeni is the second largest grain shipper in the world with a substantial fertiliser activity; both these areas present huge opportunities for the growth of Agrovista ‘s UK business.”

Mr Clayton adds:  “My plans for taking Agrovista into its next phase of growth and success build on the strong culture that already exists in the business, leveraging the outstanding technical knowledge within the team and the market-renowned development work being generated from the Agrovista R&D platform.  We also have some very strong relationships with progressive key suppliers, which when linked to the rapid developments in the agricultural market will bring many exciting new solutions to growers all over the UK.”
