Exceptional blackgrass control on heavy land using cover crops and spring cereals has been achieved in Agrovista trials for the third year running – despite an exceptionally wet spring.

The work is part of the Project Lamport initiative where the company and Bayer are investigating novel concepts to control blackgrass on clay soil at Lamport, Northamptonshire.

As on many farms, continuing with a winter wheat-based rotation at the site is no longer an option, says Agrovista technical manager Mark Hemmant. Herbicide costs have spiralled while control has dwindled, and late drilling is considered too risky on such heavy soils, he adds. Read more....
