Paul Bennett, Agrovista's technical head of fruit, spoke about how best to manage scab and mildew in the future . He said: ""We have acquired some new products that have the potential to develop resistance quite quickly. So, it's important to make sure that we understand how they all work and how we must put a programme together to prevent resistance developing, as it has in other parts of the world.""
Paul highlighted those scab and mildew fungicides that belong to the same FRAC group and how, when used in the same programme, these must be applied correctly. For example, the SOHi-based fungicides Bellis, Sercadis and Fontelis are in the same group, and we cannot put on more than four applications of products from this group. Paul added: ""That's really important to realise, otherwise you might end up with resistance issues on your farm. Also, you shouldn 't put on more than two applications of products from this group, and they should never be applied alone. So, if you apply Sercadis, you should always apply it with a non-SOHi product to protect the product's integrity.""
