A day in the life

Who are you and what is your role in Agrovista?

My name is Joseph Dormer. I am a BASIS and FACTS qualified Amenity Specialist here at Agrovista Amenity, covering West Sussex and Hampshire. I work closely with turf managers in these areas, providing services, advice and solutions to golf courses, schools, colleges, sports pitches and other sites with managed amenity turf. My role requires me to build and maintain strong, positive relationships and to ensure that the customers’ needs are understood and satisfied.

What does your job typically involve?

My day typically involves several customer visits, so there is a lot of travelling involved. I tend to be found either in the car, on site with a customer, on the phone or catching up with admin work at home. During busy periods, evenings are often spent preparing quotes, fertiliser plans and replying to customers. Further to that, there are trade shows, seminars, research days and manufacturer visits to attend.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

I’m always striving to increase my efficiency, efficacy and productivity. It takes a great deal of planning and organisation to ensure that the needs of my large customer base are being met. So, my biggest challenge is time management.

What is the best part of your job?

There are too many positive aspects of my job to single one out; satisfaction, trust, motivation, flexibility, responsibility and balance are all words that spring to mind. My job just seems to suit my personality, allowing me to thrive. The old adage is completely true - “Find a job that you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life”.
