Keeping up to date with EAMUs

Many plant protection products, not just herbicides, that do not have an appropriate on-label approval or authorisation are only available to the vegetable sector through the Extension of Authorisation for a Minor Use (EAMU), formerly known as a Specific Off-Label Approval (SOLA).

Authorisation holders, growers or representative organisations may apply for these on a specific crop and they change regularly.  Spray operators should therefore have ready access to information so they can check they are using products that have current authorisation and in a way that complies with the EAMU.

The definitive database for pesticide approvals is the Pesticides Register Database maintained by CRD (Chemicals Registration Directorate) part of The Health and Safety Directorate (https://secure.pesticides.gov.uk/pestreg/).

Another good method of obtaining this information is through the Horticulture Development Council, whose EAMU programme has obtained thousands of approvals for a range of crops and pesticide products.  HDC levy payers can receive notification of new EAMUs by email and can also find information on the HDC website and various bulletins.

Further information about pesticide approvals can be found on the FERA’s Liaison subscription website (https://secure.fera.dfra.gov.uk/liaison).

This is updated daily and lists comprehensive details based on pesticide approvals, labels and manuals and includes the latest EAMUs.  There is also an option to subscribe to email information bulletins tailored to specific search needs.

All Agrovista agronomists use software that automatically checks that all crop protection recommendations comply with the current authorisations, including EAMUs, ensuring that all applications are safe legal and stand up to the strictest scrutiny when applied as instructed.
