Residual herbicides applied pre- or early post-emergence are often subject to turbulence under the spray boom, resulting in spray drift and poor soil coverage.
East Midlands-based Agrovista agronomist Rob Sheets has been recommending drift retardant Grounded AD to his customers for several years to help reduce the problem. For many, it has become a standard addition to their spray programmes early on in a crop’s life.
“Grounded AD is designed specifically as an application aid for use with residual herbicides in a range of spring and winter crops,” says Rob.
“From my experience I would say Grounded AD improves crop safety and establishment and therefore helps increase yield.
“It improves the spray pattern and reduces drift, ensuring herbicides are applied evenly over the soil surface.
“It also increases adsorption to the soil, helping to retain active ingredients in the zone where most weed seeds germinate. This also improves crop safety on crops like beans, as less chemical is likely to leach to the seed.”
Rob says Grounded AD can be used with a wide range of partner products.
“Timely application is the key to getting the best performance from herbicides, especially important on problem weeds,” he adds.
“Grounded AD offers a cost-effective way to optimise spray application and to keep crops as weed-free as we can.”
