Andrew Wheatley - Office Services Manager

A day in the life

Who are you and what is your role at Agrovista?

My name is Andrew Wheatley and I’m the Office Services Manager, based at our main office in Nottingham. I have worked for Agrovista for just over ten years.

What does your job typically involve?

I support colleagues right across the business, but much of my time is spent in these four core areas: Reception – Meeting and greeting visitors, making sure they are made welcome and settled into the meeting room with a drink. Postroom – keeping it well stocked with all the equipment needed to operate smoothly and managing all the mail that arrives and leaves the business. Maintenance – Carrying out small maintenance jobs and liaising with contractors to carry out work. Health and Safety – general housekeeping, including checking the fire alarms, fire escapes and pat testing (254 electrical appliances last year alone!).

What is the best part of your job?

Arriving to work, knowing each day will bring a slightly different challenge. I also like meeting many different people (helpful as I’m on reception). Once a mother and son arrived at Rutherford House and, much to my confusion, immediately started apologising for being late. She explained that her son wanted to enrol on a science course at the University of Nottingham and asked if, despite being late and missing the deadline, I would still enrol him. She proceeded to explain the reason why they were late was that they had travelled down from North Yorkshire and pleaded that I phone the science department to let them know that they were on the campus. After much conversation, the penny eventually dropped, and they left. Never a dull day…

What is the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging part of my job is getting Agrovista staff, who are not based at Rutherford House, to sign the visitor’s book. You know who you are!
